Earlier this year, Joe Faulkner reminisced about the early GL3Ds and explained that I was taking over the event. For the May 2012 event, I had not wanted to change much in terms of the event format but did want to modernise how the event operated, with the introduction of pre-printed maps and electronic timing.

The 2012 GL3D™ was a big success with the introduction of pre-printed maps and electronic timing for the first time, helping to modernise the event. We had wanted to build on that relaxed and informal atmosphere that the GL3D™ is famous for. So, we also introduced free cakes and provided hot water and beer at the overnight camps.

Today, Ourea Ltd - who organise the Great Lakeland 3Day - have joined the 1% For The Planet movement.

Over three days at the beginning of March GL3D™ Race Director Shane Ohly accompanied by his wife Heather walked the majority of the 2012 route as planned by Charlie Sproson.

We are pleased to confirm that the 2012 Great Lakeland 3Day™ has been confirmed as a qualifying race for the 2013 Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc®.

This year's event is now half full and on target reach maximum capacity at the beginning of April.
