The Great Lakeland 3Day™ (also known as the GL3D™) is a small but adventurous three-day mountain marathon with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that attracts both runners and long-distance walkers.

Heather is a highly accomplished endurance athlete with a record of significant wins across almost every adventure sport including fell running, mountain biking, mountain marathons, triathlon and adventure racing.

We are pleased to report that the 2013 Great Lakeland 3Day™ has been confirmed as a qualifying race for the 2014 The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc®".

We are very excited to be able to start revealing details of the 2013 GL3D™. First of all the courses cover a wide-ranging area within the Central and Northern Lakeland fells.

We are very excited to announce the premiere of our film about the 2012 Dragon’s Back Race, which will be at the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival on Saturday 2nd March at 8.45 pm.

Earlier this year, Joe Faulkner reminisced about the early GL3Ds and explained that I was taking over the event. For the May 2012 event, I had not wanted to change much in terms of the event format but did want to modernise how the event operated, with the introduction of pre-printed maps and electronic timing.

We are very happy to be working with Joe Faulkner and his team at NAV4 for the provision of our exclusive Mountain Running Essentials™ courses.

The 2012 GL3D™ was a big success with the introduction of pre-printed maps and electronic timing for the first time, helping to modernise the event. We had wanted to build on that relaxed and informal atmosphere that the GL3D™ is famous for. So, we also introduced free cakes and provided hot water and beer at the overnight camps.

Today, Ourea Ltd - who organise the Great Lakeland 3Day - have joined the 1% For The Planet movement.
