Final details - t-shirts, lift sharing, Lowe Alpine raffle and more

We're enjoying putting the final touches to the 2016 Great Lakeland 3Day™ event, and would like to share a whole bunch of updates before we meet you at the end of April.

The GL3D™ has officially sold out for the fourth time in five years. To preserve the unique and friendly atmosphere of the event, places are strictly limited each year as they have been since the earliest days of the GL3D™.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS - FRIDAY EVENING AT THE EVENT CENTRE

Earlier this month, our popular Friday night 'Best of ShAFF' film screening also sold out over one month ahead of the event, despite doubling the capacity of the film tent since last year! However, we'd still encourage you to arrive on Friday evening to register in good time and join us for a social brew/beer and cake and a (pre-order only) Wilf's supper:

  • Sausage casserole with bloomer and cake + custard desert - £6

The deadline for ordering a Friday night meal (and/or Saturday morning breakfast) is Sunday 24th April - see below for how to order**

OPTIONAL EXTRAS - SATURDAY BREAKFAST

Want complete luxury? Let us have the hassle of preparing your pre-running breakfast for you too with these tasty ready-to-go options!

  • Scrambled egg sandwich - £2

  • Large bowl of muesli/cereal - £1

The deadline for ordering a Friday night meal and/or Saturday morning breakfast is Sunday 24th April - see below for how to order**

**To order any optional extras - food or t-shirt - simply log in to Si Entries (entry owner only) to amend your entry and checkout with your preferences.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS - 2016 T-SHIRT

We are delighted to announce that we have chosen a high-quality organic cotton style T-shirt for pre-order only, and there is still time to purchase one before the Sunday 17th April deadline

The design is revealed - this will make a great memento of the 2016 event, albeit it has meant revealing some of the checkpoints en route!

LIFT SHARING VIA RACE LIFTS

If you are travelling to this race, there is a very good chance (over 90%) that another runner who lives nearby is also entered. Why not car share and save on petrol costs? Simply tap in your postcode on the Racelifts.org site.

It only takes a minute to see how many runners are in your area, and then register. Choose whether you might be able to offer a lift, and/or if you're looking to get a lift. You're under no obligation, and you can opt-out if you change your mind. Register now!

BEER & CIDER AT THE EVENT CENTRE & OVERNIGHT CAMPS

We are delighted to confirm that Bowness Bay Brewing, a local Lakes brewery, will be supplying superb beer and cider for the GL3D™. This will be available to purchase on Friday night at the event centre and at both the Saturday and Sunday overnight camps... while stocks last of course!

BARISTA COFFEE FROM JOEY’S COFFEE

Joey’s Coffee will be attending the GL3D™ over the weekend and competitors will be able to purchase the highest quality barista served coffee (hot chocolates with marshmallows very likely too!). Joey’s Coffee is always a big hit with competitors and volunteers at our events.

LOWE ALPINE PRIZES AND RAFFLE

Lowe Alpine have very kindly offered to provided all the finishers, regardless of position, a prize! You do need to make it to the finish line on Monday though!

This year Lowe Alpine will also be providing a great selection of raffle prizes. There will be a raffle at 20:00 each evening (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and only competitors present in the marquee at the time of the raffle are eligible. Raffle tickets are free… you just need to be there to be in with a chance of winning!

ELITE WINNERS - HEATHER DAWE FRAMED PRINTS

Since 2013 we have been offering a splendid Heather Dawe print to our elite male and female winners. This year Heather will once again be producing two limited edition framed prints as the prizes for the elite winners.

Heather is a highly accomplished endurance athlete with a record of significant wins across almost every adventure sport including fell running, mountain biking, mountain marathons, triathlon, adventure racing and of course the GL3D™. In recent years she has been painting and writing and has now published two books: Adventures in Mind and A Bicycle Ride in Yorkshire. Please check out her website for further details. Historically, the GL3D has not provided prizes but we felt that as a previous GL3D™ winner, Heather’s prints would make a fantastic memento for our leading two runners.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECOLOGICAL BRIEFING

As organisers of the Great Lakeland 3Day™, Ourea Events is making a serious effort to minimise the impact each event has on the environment. This year we have asked an independent ecologist to assess our routes so that we can plan courses that minimise impact on sensitive ecological locations. Please take a few mintues to read this short briefing.

 AND FINALLY

YOU MUST REPORT BACK TO THE FINISH AND HAND IN YOUR SI-CARD

SI-Cards (timing chips) MUST be downloaded at each day's finish even if you retire en route. This is an essential safety requirement of the event and avoids an unnecessary search. Failure to hand back a hired SI-Card will incur a charge.

We look forward to seeing you at the event centre in Bassenthwaite at the end of the month,

Regards from all the GL3D™ team
