Ourea Events, organisers of the Great Lakeland 3Day™, are pleased to announce that SILVA have become the title sponsor of the event until 2019.
The GL3D™, which has been running since 1998, is an adventurous, three-day mountain marathon with a relaxed atmosphere and has a dedicated following of participants who enjoy the challenge and reward of consecutive days out in the Lake District. The emphasis is on quality long days in the hills so participants can expect mostly mountain trails and footpaths, along ridges and through valleys. Meanwhile their camping kit is transported ahead to the next overnight camp, which awaits them along with complimentary tea, coffee, or cake. The friendly nature of the event means people can set off anytime during the start window each day; the faster finishers usually set off last allowing for everyone to arrive into camp at a roughly similar time.

Tim Young, UK Sales Manager, commented: “SILVA are proud to be involved with the iconic Great Lakeland 3Day™ Mountain Marathon. I am looking forward to taking part myself, meeting SILVA customers and seeing the products in action. SILVA have been involved in UK Mountain Marathons since 2008 and our Expedition compass includes design features such as a 1:40,000 scale especially for events like this.”

Shane Ohly, Race Director, said: “We’re delighted that SILVA have confirmed their support for the next three editions of the Great Lakeland 3Day™ until 2019. We are looking forward to working with Silva to further cement the GL3D’s reputation as both a fantastic standalone event and a springboard into our more navigationally intensive mountain marathons like Marmot Dark Mountains™ and the ROC Mountain Marathon™.
